Volunteer Applications

The Old Police Cells Museum preserves 13 original cells in the basement of Brighton Town Hall and a collection (c.1830-) of uniforms, memorabilia, evidence materials, communication and police equipment. Its immediate ambition is to strengthen its role with community groups and residents to foster stronger social relations across the city. 

The Old Police Cells Museum relies on the dedication of volunteers to help run the museum. We are currently hiring for a number of positions. Please see the volunteer roles below if you are interested. We look forward to hearing from you.

Education volunteer:

In this role, you will be working in education and learning outreach. You will developing materials for students in line with the national curriculum and deliver school tours. Would particularly suit those wishing to enter either the education or museum sector.

Mondays 10am – 2pm.

We are looking for two education officers to join the team.

Digital team volunteer:

In this role you’ll work with the social media team to produce engaging digital output. Squarespace skills handy, but not essential.

Mondays and/or Saturdays 10am – 2pm.

We are recruiting one social media manager.

Tour Guides/Museum Invigilators:

You’ll learn about key objects in the collection, as well as the history of the museum and Brighton Town Hall, equipping you to welcome interested visitors.

Saturdays 10am – 2pm.
