Sussex Police photo Archive 1919

A total of 94 members of West Sussex Constabulary served in the First World War, and those who returned were welcomed back with a dinner hosted by the Standing Joint Committee. Soldiers had been known as 'Tommy Atkins', and police officers returning from the war became known as 'Bobby Atkins'.
